Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block’ Grüner Veltiner 2021, Marlborough

Second-generation winery Saint Clair set up shop in Marlborough in 1978, and since then they’ve built a portfolio of eclectic wines through a combination of great people, hard work and passion. Part of the team since 2003, winemaker Stewart Maclennan has worked in Austria – so he really knows how to handle the country’s signature white variety, Grüner Veltliner. The grapes are handpicked from a relatively warm vineyard site, conditions that increase the intensity and ripeness of character. Expect aromas of stone fruit, white pepper and spice, plus good structure and acidity. A very food-friendly wine that will go with plenty of dishes, including spicy curries.
