Pietraia Pecorino d’Abruzzo DOC 2022/23

Try something new with this intensely floral, minimal intervention Pecorino. Founded in 2022 by Pierpaolo Passetti, son of Rocco Pasetti of Contesa winery, one of the first winemakers that believed in the potential of the Pecorino grape – putting this wine in great stead. One of the lesser known varietals of Italy, the grape was rescued from obscurity by passionate winemakers in Eastern and Central winegrowing regions. Both Pierpaolo and Rocco are part of the winemaking operations here, using minimal intervention and organic practices. The vineyards lie on hilly, mainly clay-limestone soil, which give these wines body but at the same time a surprising freshness. Here’s how it tastes: Intense with floral notes and citrusy highlights of orange blossom. The palate is fresh and mineral with a perfect balance of acidity and smoothness. An excellent pairing for soft and blue cheeses.
