Moulin Rose de Malescasse
£19.99
A deliciously distinctive Haut-Médoc blend from Château Malescasse – one of only 19 Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in the region. The estate Château Malescasse was built in 1824 overlooking the commune of Lamarque, it is renowned for the quality of its wines and its superb terroir. Now owned by Vignobles Austruy, this producer is a wonderful example of the timeless, traditional virtues of the Haut-Médoc region. Situated between Margaux and Saint-Julien, the rolling gravel hillside vineyards give this wine its unique identity. The winemakers focus heavily on Merlot here, with a greater focus on the grape than other producers in the region. The Moulin Rose pays homage to the iconic Malescasse windmill, using a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes from specific parcels that grow around the beautiful building. Each parcel is made individually before being blended. The wine’s balance and elegance give it a distinctively Médoc style with plenty of character. How does it taste? This wine is elegant and velvety with notes of savoury bell pepper, juicy black plum, rich prune undertones and a hint of rosemary. It stands up brilliantly to rich meaty dishes like Beef Bourguignon and game – as well as a summer barbeque or hard cheeses.
