Kanonkop ‘Late Release’ Pinotage, Stellenbosch

Wine has been made at Kanonkop since the 1940s, but it wasn’t until 1973 that the iconic label was created. Today, they’re in their fourth generation of family ownership and the winery has an international reputation as one of the finest in Stellenbosch. Their Pinotage is world-renowned, lauded by legendary critic Robert Parker, among others. And this exceptional bottling shows just what a decade in the cellar can do for it. Made with old-vine grapes and aged for 16 months in oak before it’s bottled, you’ll find it complex and full bodied with bold red- and black-fruit flavours, plus savoury notes of earth and forest floor. Its mature character and velvety tannins make it an excellent match for lamb or mutton, or you can cellar it for another 25 years.
