Eddystone Point Pinot Noir 2018, Tasmania

Don’t say Australian wines aren’t diverse – this Pinot Noir from the windswept northeast of Tasmania has far more in common with Burgundy than it does with the hefty reds of the Barossa. Hobart-born winemaker Penny Jones makes the most of the island’s unique layered terrains, sourcing grapes from different Tasmanian sub regions to create a bottling that is both complex and distinct. Warmer than average spring and summer conditions in the 2018 vintage have made for a wine with expressive noted of fresh-cut strawberry, Morello cherry and spice. Lightly structured yet with balanced natural acidity and tannin, it will go great with gamey duck dishes.
