Beringer ‘Knights Valley’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Sonoma County
£39.99
The family-owned Beringer estate is known for establishing many ‘firsts’ as leaders in the wine industry. Aside from being one of Napa Valley’s very first wineries, they were the first to give public tours in 1934, starting the region’s famous hospitality tradition. More recently, they were the first and only winery to have both a red and a white wine named #1 Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator Magazine. As well as farming in Napa Valley, the family have owned vineyards in neighbouring Sonoma County since the mid-1960s. Another ‘first’ came along with Beringer being the first to use the Knights Valley designation on a label. Recognising the area’s capabilities for producing high quality wine, the family were instrumental in getting the region formally recognised as an American Viticulture Area (AVA) designation. You only need to sample this bottling to understand why it’s worthy of the status. It spends 16 months ageing in French oak, bringing plenty of complexity. Discover notes of black cherry, boysenberry and fig with hints of black olive, dried herbs, lavender and mocha. You’ll find it elegant and structured, making it ideal for rich meaty dishes and mature cheeses.
